New Year’s Resolutions:  WTF?

There’s an article out there by The Bulletproof Executive that states 92% of New Year’s Resolutions fail.  Where the heck they came up with that number is beyond me, but one thing is apparent:  Whatever the number, most resolutions DO indeed fail, wouldn’t you agree?  I certainly do, based on observations of others and my own failures over the years.  Why is this?  Well, the article did mention quite a few reasons why and they made plenty of sense to me.  Here are a few of them and how you can combat them in your quest for a healthier you.

  1. Vague Goals, for one.  Be reasonable, realistic and specific in your goals.  Don’t just spam your brain with “I need to lose weight.”  Write on a board or something visible to you every day:  “Goal:  Lose 20 lbs by April 1, 2014.”  By giving yourself a number and a deadline, you can actually plan for your success.  When you reach that expectation, set your next specific, measureable goal.
  2. The Wrong Friends.  I think the gist of this one is to surround yourself with a positive support system.  Aside from the obvious, your family, rely on your gaming friends, for example.  Especially those gamers found right here, who are trying to do exactly what you’re doing!  Lose weight, be healthier and happier!
  3. Guilt.  When you slip, don’t dwell on it!  Be a big cow-poke, shake off the dust and get back on the dang horse.  You are training your mind to be stronger just as much as you are training your body, so stay on target!  You CAN do this.

Remember that when it comes to losing weight and getting healthy, YOU MUST EARN IT.  Nothing in life that is worth doing is easy.  You’re trying to change your lifestyle.  You want the changes to be permanent.  Only YOU have the power to make it so.

Invest a bit of time, become your own expert!  The more time to spend learning your new behaviors, the more invested you become.  The more invested you are, the more apt you are to stay in the saddle!
