A Dev’s Breakfast

Recently, I was very excited to see one of the developers of Wildstar was following Grinds 4 Gamers on Twitter.  I was tickled.  So, publicly, thank you Dev Jen Gordy (@Bardic_) for the follow!  Fast-forward to this morning.  I was checking my (friggen’ numerous) Twitter feeds and found that Jen had posted a question about healthy breakfasts.  Here’s the Tweet:

So I’m just going to hop right into ideas.  Keep in mind, I’m going to have a primal spin on these recipes because as many of you know, I’m a clean eater.  What do I mean by clean?  I stay away from crappy carbohydrate sources such as grains/breads/pastas/rice.  These sources are linked to causing inflammation in the body.  Inflammation leads to numerous health issues.  I get my carbohydrates from raw sources like fruits and vegetables.  I’m also not a huge proponent of dairy.  Granted I preach a bit more hardcore than the next guy, but I want to see results.  I want YOU to see results.  I stress the healthiest in ingredients, because without going into the science of it all, processed grains and dairy products are NOT GOOD FOR YOU.  Don’t listen to the damn USDA.  Think I’m full of fluff?  Read these articles later, they’ll explain everything.  Still don’t believe me?  Try it.  I can guarantee that if you do it right, you’ll be a believer.

To keep with the Wildstar theme, let’s start with a couple of breakfast recipes from Prymal Peppercorn, the Nexian Chef!

Rowsdower Field Cakes (aka Paleo Pancakes):

2 Ripened Nexxian Bananas (picked from the Jungles near Walatiki Temple)

2 Yokey, Unfertilized Vulcarrion Eggs

3 Heaping Tablespoons of  Skeech Almond Butter

2 Cups of Almond Meal (Skeech Almonds are best, but good luck getting it from those vile little bastards)

1 Teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon

Pinch of Nexxian Sea Salt

Mix all ingredients well.  As a matter of fact, mash the snot out of it and blend it to a batter-like consistency.  Cook well on a hot griddle with some Coconut Oil as lubricant.  Did I say lubricant?  Serve topped with some Buzzbing Honey and some Grass-Fed OxianButter.  You could also supplement with a side of Warpig Uncured Bacon.   Pretty much no better meal to fuel a day of risky field science!  Enjoy!

The Spelunker’s Smoothie

2 Cups of Squeezed Juice from a Jungle Orange or Coconut/Pineapple Juice

½ Cup of Raw Oxian Milk (Any milk of your choice. I prefer Raw, Unpasteurized or Almond Milk)

1 heaping tablespoon of Skeech Almond Butter or a handful of Skeech Almonds

1 Wild Picked Banana

1 Cup of chopped Homestead Garden Kale or Spinach

1 Cup of frozen hanging tree fruit

½ Cup of your favorite genetically modified protein powder (fruit flavored is best)

Drop all ingredients into your whirly-chop machine, get your fingers out of the way and press the button! Not many ways to jack this one up! Serve immediately and get to spelunking!

OK, enough fooling around with the Nexian Chef.  Here’s a few more ideas that stay away from those things you hate!

2 Cups of Almond Meal

¾ Cup Coconut Oil (melted)

1/3 Cup Honey or Agave Nectar

2 tsp Cinnamon

3 tsp Vanilla Extract

1tsp Sea Salt

1 ½ Cup Shredded Coconut

1 Cup Almonds

½ Cup Shelled Sunflower Seeds

½ Cup Cashews

Mix all ingredients in large mixing bowl until the coconut oil coats it all.  Put all ingredients in a blender and give short bursts of power just to chop the ingredients a little.  You don’t want it completely blended like a food processor would do.  You want some chunks!  Pour the mixture on a baking sheet and place into the oven at 275-300F for about 25 minutes.  Toss it once or twice during the baking process.  Remove it and allow it to cool.  Use it in a bowl with some berries and a bit of greek probiotic yogurt.  Breakfast!  Insanely healthy dose of good fats that your body craves.  The best part:  No grains to bog down your morning.

If you want something you can add some morning spiciness to, try this eggless mixture.  These good carbohydrates and protein boost will certainly fuel your morning without causing that dreaded insulin spike!

1 Sweet Potato

½  Sweet Onion

½ lb Ground Turkey or Beef

4 cups of Spinach or Kale

½ tsp Cinnamon

2 tsp Olive Oil or Coconut Oil for cooking

Sea Salt to taste

Chop the sweet potato and onion into bite-sized pieces.  Chop the Kale or Spinach into small strips.  Place the olive oil in a frying pan and heat on medium-high.  Drop in the onions, cinnamon, sea salt and sweet potatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes.  Put in the meat and break it up as it cooks.  Mix it in with the sweet potatoes and onions.  Drain any excess fluid.  Once the meat is cooked and the sweet potatoes are soft, put in the kale or spinach.  Mix all ingredients well.  The kale or spinach will cook quickly.  Serve immediately, or store it for tomorrow!  It makes an excellent breakfast at the office.

NOTE:  Tons of different combinations you can make here for an eggless breakfast!  Just grab your favorite ground meat and mix it in with chopped vegetables like:  Zucchini, Squash, Carrots, Peppers, Asparagus, etc.  Serve it with a side of avocado and an apple.  BOOM!  Perfectly rounded meal.  It also works well as lunch and dinner!

This one’s easy!  Grab your favorite probiotic yogurt, put it in a bowl.  Pour in some fresh berries.  Top it with some roasted almonds.  Drizzle some honey or agave nectar over the top.  If you made some Primal Granola from above, drop some in the bowl!  BREAKFAST!

EGG CUPCAKES (for your cakehole):

This one is so crafty.  If you’re on the go and you need something that you can just pop in your cake hole, this might work well.  Here we go.

Grab your Gear:  A muffin tin and muffin wrappers

1 dozen eggs

1 zucchini

1 bushel of green onions

½ lb lean ground meat (sausage, turkey, beef)

1 sweet potato

Salt & Pepper to taste

Place the eggs into a bowl and whisk, mixing in the salt and pepper.  Use a cheese grater to shred the zucchini and sweet potato.  Chop the green onions.  Cook the onions, grated zucchini, grated sweet potato and ground meat in a frying pan.  Once the mixture is cooked, spoon a portion into each muffin wrapper cup that you’ve placed in the muffin tin.  Pour in a portion of the whisked eggs into each tin.  Be aware that when you cook these, the eggs will rise, so only fill to about half way!  Place the muffin tin into the oven at about 350F -375F for about 12-15 minutes, or just long enough for the eggs to not be snotty.  Let them rest so they don’t melt your face before serving.   You can pack them for tomorrow, too.  Top with some Tapatio, Tabasco or Cholula Hot Sauce.  BOOM.  BREAKFAST!

Here’s another easy idea.  Bob’s Red Mill makes an outstanding Gluten Free Hot Cereal.  When prepared, it has the consistency of thick Cream of Wheat, but without the wheat.  I usually mix in a tablespoon of almond butter, chopped apples, a handful of raisins and slivers of almonds.  You can sweeten it up with a bit of honey or agave nectar.  This one is a big hit with my daughter.

So there you go, Miss Gordy!  Some ideas that are healthy, not egg-heavy, and NO OATMEAL!  I hope they work for you.  The bottom line is, get creative!  You don’t have to eat the same staples over and over again.  Breakfast is an important part of your day, and Lord knows, Jen, we need you fueled so you can concentrate on the development of Wildstar!!!!
